Who We Are

The National Adolescent Literacy Coalition (NALC) offers a collective voice for individuals and organizations committed to improving the literacy of all adolescents. NALC participants include educators, researchers, and policy makers from over sixty school districts, universities, governmental agencies, and education associations.

The Coalition is an outgrowth of a meeting held at the Kellogg Foundation in December 2002, which was followed by an invitational Conversation on Adolescent Literacy hosted in New York by the College Board in June 2003.  Since that time, NALC has met two times per year.  Led by a steering committee, the group has continued to refine its mission and purpose, and has undertaken several outreach activities.  Although its primary role to date has been the exchange of ideas, research, and programs among the Coalition’s participants, NALC has been represented at other forums about adolescent literacy.
